Talk: "Biotechnology and Its Applications"

As part of the launch of the Bachelor’s Degree in Biotechnology, a talk titled “Biotechnology and Its Applications” was held on October 20 at the ORT Centro Auditorium, featuring panelists Dr. Matilde Soubes, Dr. Rafael Leaniz, and Engineer Pedro Lage. The goal of these biotechnology talks is to help foster a proper understanding of biotechnology in Uruguay, as well as to share information about some of the new technologies and their applications. On Friday, October 30, at 9:00 p.m., TCC Digital’s “Asuntos Públicos” channel will broadcast this talk.

Matilde Soubes. Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Chemistry from the University of the Republic. Professor of Microbiology and Director of the Department of Biosciences in the School of Chemistry at the University of the Republic. Level 2 researcher in the National System of Researchers and Level 1 researcher in the PEDECIBA Chemistry program.

Rafael Leaniz. Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from the University of La Plata, Argentina. Ph.D. in Veterinary Medicine and Food Technology from the University of the Republic. Director of Special R&D&I Projects at Laboratorios Santa Elena. Director of Lebak Trading, a manufacturer and marketer of oil-based adjuvants for veterinary use. Former Chairman of the Board of Laboratorios Santa Elena (1996–2004).

Pedro Lage. Civil Engineer, Structural Engineering track, from the University of the Republic. MBA from the IAE at Austral University, Argentina. Former Assistant Engineer at the National Highway Administration, Structures Department of the Ministry of Transportation and Public Works. Former Coordinator of Undergraduate and Graduate Programs in the Faculties of Engineering and Business and Social Sciences at ORT University. Director of Lage y Cía., Microbiological Laboratory.
