February 17, 2010
Dr. Denise Vaillant, Professor of Educational Policy in the School of Administration and Social Sciences and Coordinator of the GTD-PREAL, co-authored the book “Teacher Professional Development. How Does One Learn to Teach?”, published by Narcea, Barcelona. On February 26, she presented the book in the Auditorium Hall at the University of Buenos Aires.

Based on the experiences analyzed in this book—both in OECD countries and in Latin America—and despite the wide variety of contexts, a number of factors can be identified that have a positive impact on teachers’ professional development. The study concludes that sound policies are necessary to ensure that teachers’ professional development equips them with the competencies they will need throughout their long careers. Society needs good teachers, whose professional practice meets high professional standards and who, above all, fulfill a fundamental commitment: to respect students’ right to learn.
