Camino TICs seeks to contribute to poverty reduction by reintegrating young people into a formal technical and vocational education system, enabling their social inclusion in one of the most dynamic sectors of the national economy: information and communications technology (ICT).
The project implements a support network focused on providing information, raising awareness, and offering personal and professional training in ICT to young people. The network consists of ORT University, the Rotary Club of Aguada District 4970, the Uruguayan Chamber of Information Technology (CUTI), and has by the European Union. These institutions join forces to provide young people with opportunities for professional and personal development, maximizing their chances of entering the labor market.
The program offers full scholarships for 100 young people to pursue one of the following technical careers: Web Developer, Object-Oriented Programmer, Computer Electronics Technician, and Electrical and Electronics Technician.
First Call for Applications :
Application Requirements: 16 to 21 years of age, household per capita income below $6,000, incomplete high school diploma (or equivalent) with a maximum of three failed 4th-year courses
The application period was open, in this first stage, until March 10. Applicants took a selection test on March 12. On March 19, the 24 students selected in this round were announced, and they began classes on Monday, March 22. The selected students will be mentored by Rotary tutors who volunteer with the project, through activities coordinated with the academic supervisors.
