FIBA Anti-Money Laundering (AML/CA) Certification – Associate Level

On April 29 and 30, the Faculty of Administration and Social Sciences hosted a preparatory course for the FIBA (Florida International Bankers Association) Anti-Money Laundering (AML/CA) Associate Level Certification, organized by the Association of Private Banks of Uruguay and ORT University.

The course aims to help participants understand how to identify and describe the key aspects of preventing money laundering and terrorist financing risks and mitigating those risks within a financial institution; establish, implement, and improve the internal control systems, policies, and procedures necessary to comply with relevant laws and regulations and to reduce the risks of money laundering and terrorist financing; and identify, investigate, and report suspicious activities.

The course consists of six modules:

Module I: From the fight against money laundering to the prevention of terrorist financing.
Module II: From theory to practice: a risk-based anti-money laundering methodology.
Module III: Risk Mitigation through Internal Controls.
Module IV: How to Detect Money Laundering Red Flags: Monitoring, Identifying, Investigating, and Reporting.
Module V: Preparing for Audits and Regulatory Inspections.
Module VI: Training and Communications with Management and the Board of Directors.

The Certification is intended for AML Compliance Officers, AML Analysts, Risk Managers, AML Consultants, Accountants, Auditors, Lawyers, new AML Compliance staff, experienced AML Officers who need to expand their knowledge base, and CEOs who require a broader understanding of the scope and requirements of AML.

Upon completion of the course, participants will receive via email the information needed to access the practice tests and final exam, and will have 90 days to complete them at their own pace.

Instructors

Ana María de Alba. MBA, instructor at the FIBA AML Institute ( affiliated with Florida International University), risk consultant, and owner of Consulting Services for Management and Banking. Prof. De Alba has 23 years of experience and training in the banking industry. As a consultant, she has worked in U.S. and international banking. She has also led projects in the United States, Venezuela, Chile, Ecuador, Uruguay, Colombia, Mexico, Peru, Panama, Honduras, Costa Rica, and Guatemala, among others.

Ignacio Sienra Reyes. Faculty member in the programs of the Center for Executive Education at the School of Administration and Social Sciences. Ph.D. in Law and Social Sciences. Postgraduate degree in Capital Markets from Austral University, Buenos Aires, Argentina. He held various positions in the Finance Department at Banco Pan de Azúcar. He participated in the working group that implemented the Uruguayan Electronic Stock Exchange, serving as co-author of the institution’s credit line manual. He was Head of Investments at the Santander Group’s Fund Management Foundation. He subsequently oversaw debt issuance for the group’s corporate clients. He served as an Account Officer in Private Banking at Banco Santander, where he focused on Argentine clients. He was later appointed Compliance Officer and Vice President, overseeing AML/CFT (anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing) duties. He is currently developing a project for Lloyds TSB Uruguay on customer identification.

Individual registration costs US$1,350, while group registration offers a 50% discount for the third registrant. All registrations include enrollment for the International Certification.
