Lecture Series: "Understanding the Conflict in the Middle East Through Media Interpretations of Discourse"

The Department of Jewish Studies organized a lecture series titled "Understanding the Conflict in the Middle East Through Media Interpretation of Discourse," led by Prof. Oded Balaban, Chair of the Department of Philosophy in the Faculty of Humanities at the University of Haifa. The series, which consisted of three lectures, began on May 31. The second lecture took place on Tuesday, June 22, and the third session was held on Monday, July 26.

Prof. Balaban was born in Buenos Aires and has lived in Israel since 1967. He earned his B.A. in Philosophy from the University of Haifa and a Master’s degree with honors from the Department of Philosophy in the Faculty of Humanities at the same university. He holds a Ph.D. in Philosophy from Tel Aviv University. He has been honored by the Israel Science Foundation and has received the Award for Teaching Excellence from the Technion Institute of Technology in Israel on a dozen occasions. He is the author of numerous articles in peer-reviewed scientific journals and of several books, including “Interpreting Conflict – The Israeli-Palestinian Negotiation at Camp David II and Beyond,” New York, Peter Lang Publisher, 2005.
