Exhibition of Models by Architecture and Interior Design Students

August 10, 2010
From August 16 to 26, an exhibition of models created by students in the Mathematics 1 and Calculus 1 courses of the Architecture and Interior Design programs was held in the main hall of the School of Architecture. These models showcase designs of spaces or objects based on quadratic surfaces, generated from equations with two variables.

Building on an understanding of various surfaces (paraboloid, hyperbolic paraboloid, single- and double-sheeted hyperboloids, and ellipsoid), a design process begins that offers complete freedom in terms of form and function, aiming to familiarize students with these surfaces as they explore their possibilities and their expressive and functional potential. Subsequently, they approach the subject from the field of mathematics, deriving the equations that describe the designed surfaces.
