Call for Participation in the "Workshop on International Financial Reporting Standards for SMEs"

March 16, 2011
On Thursday, March 17, a meeting was held at the School of Business and Social Sciences to share information about the "Workshop on International Financial Reporting Standards for SMEs," organized by the World Bank, the IFRS Foundation, and the Association of Certified Public Accountants of Panama in October 2010 in Panama. María Cristina Tolosa, Ph.D., Professor of General Accounting and Financial Statement Analysis at the faculty, attended the workshop on behalf of Universidad ORT Uruguay. At this meeting, she presented the material covered in the workshop to the faculty’s accounting department faculty members.

The objective of the workshop was to train “trainers” in International Financial Reporting Standards for SMEs in Latin America and the Caribbean, so that they, in turn, can train others in the consistent application of the standard. The workshop was designed so that participants could:

* Understand IFRS for SMEs.
* Be able to provide similar training in their own countries.
* Be able to participate in trainer events to exchange ideas.

In this regard, and emphasizing the objective of “training trainers,” the faculty is convening its accounting faculty for a meeting to present the material covered in the workshop, focusing on the topic of how to teach IFRS for SMEs. During this activity, the faculty members shared materials and exercises, and analyzed and exchanged perspectives that will support their work in the classroom.

Ms. Tolosa is a Professor of General Accounting and Financial Statement Analysis in the Public Accounting, Bachelor of Management and Administration, and Bachelor of Economics programs. She is a member of the faculty’s Academic Advisory Committee.
