"Mathematical Models" Exhibition at the School of Architecture

August 11, 2011
From August 15 to 29, 2011, an exhibition of models created by students in the Mathematics 1 and Calculus 1 courses for the Architecture and Interior Design programs was held in the lobby of the School of Architecture. The exhibition was organized by Architect Marcel Perchman.

The models depict designs of spaces or objects based on quadratic surfaces, generated from equations with two variables.

Building on an understanding of various surfaces (paraboloid, hyperbolic paraboloid, single- and double-sheeted hyperboloids, ellipsoid), a design process begins that offers complete freedom in terms of program and functionality, aiming to familiarize students with these surfaces as they explore their possibilities and their expressive and functional potential.

Next, the students approach the problem from a mathematical perspective, deriving the equations that describe the designed surfaces.
