Conference: "Can the United Nations Create a Palestinian State?"

October 3, 2011
On Monday, October 10, 2011, the lecture "Can the United Nations Create a Palestinian State?" was held at the ORT Pocitos Auditorium, presented by Dr. Alberto Spectorowski, Professor of Political Theory and Comparative Politics at Tel Aviv University. The event was organized by the Department of Jewish Studies.
On Friday, September 23, 2011, the Palestinian Authority submitted its formal request to the United Nations General Assembly to join the United Nations as an independent state. How does this affect the Israeli-Palestinian conflict? What might the Security Council’s response be, and what consequences could it have?

Spectorowski holds a Ph.D. in Political Science from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and completed further studies at Yale University. He has taught at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and the University of Notre Dame in Indiana. He is the author of numerous articles on fascist ideology and the New Right in Europe, as well as the book *The Origins of Argentina’s Revolution of the Right*, published by the University of Notre Dame Press in 2003. He served as a political advisor to Shlomo Ben-Ami during his tenure as foreign minister, accompanying him to meetings with Palestinian officials, including the Camp David talks in 2000.
