Academic Presentation by the Uruguayan Association of Former Israel Scholars (AUDEBI)

On April 24, 2012, ORT Centro hosted the “AUDEBI Academic Presentation: Let’s Embrace Israel, Land of Opportunities,” featuring former scholarship recipients Enrique González Núñez, Eugenia Puglia (President of AUDEBI), and journalist Gerardo Sotelo. The speakers will present the activities of the Uruguayan Association of Former Israel Scholars through examples from some of its members. The event was organized by the Department of Jewish Studies and AUDEBI.

This association was founded within the "Club Shalom Uruguay" in 1989 with the aim of promoting, strengthening, and fostering the development of cultural, artistic, scientific, educational, social, and technical relations between the peoples and governments of Uruguay and Israel. It brings together businesspeople, corporate executives, consultants, politicians, academics, professionals, and technical experts from the public and private sectors who have been awarded scholarships in Israel in their respective fields of expertise.

Mr. González Núñez holds a Master’s degree in Science Education from the Institute of Mathematics, Statistics, and Computer Science at the State University of Campinas, São Paulo. He is a secondary school computer science teacher. He served as Regional Coordinator of Educational Informatics in the departments of Flores, Río Negro, and Soriano, and was a co-author of the INFED 2000 program. He was a professor of Educational Informatics at the “De la Costa” Teacher Training Institute. He was a fellow in New Communication Technologies in Israel.

Ms. Puglia holds a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work from the University of the Republic. She served as Executive Director of the Uruguay Volunteer Center and as Project Director for “Service Learning as a Means of Promoting Volunteering” in primary and secondary education, the UTU, and the Youth Institute. She served as an advisor on the topic "Volunteering and Civic Participation as an Exercise in Citizenship" within the framework of the Ministry of the Interior’s "Hora de Sumar" project. She was a fellow at the Bernardo Klisberg Chair Institute for International Cooperation (IDB), Israel.

Journalist Sotelo hosts the program “El LadOculto” on TCC’s Channel 20 and the Sarandí Primera Edición news program on Radio Sarandí. He is a columnist for the newspaper El País and Montevideo Portal. He is a professor in the Corporate Communication department of the School of Communication and Design at Universidad ORT Uruguay. He was a fellow of the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs in courses for journalists and communicators on the Arab-Israeli conflict.
