Piven was born in Uruguay and currently lives in Israel. He studied illustration at the School of Visual Arts in New York. His work is part of the permanent collection of the Prints and Photographs Division of the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C. He conducts workshops and lectures at art schools worldwide, including the China Academy of Art (Beijing), the Art and Design Center (Pasadena), Sheridan College (Toronto), and the European Institute of Design ( Rome). He received the Gold Medal from the Society of Illustrators of New York for his caricature of Barbra Streisand and the Silver Medal from The Society of Publication Designers, among other awards. His book "What Presidents Are Made Of" was named by Time Magazine as one of the ten best children’s books published in 2004.
