The 30 scholarship recipients who participated in this seminar were selected by Harvard University’ s Laspau program and the deans of the engineering schools at the Catholic University of Uruguay, the University of the Republic, the University of Montevideo, and Universidad ORT Uruguay. Four spots were allocated to each of the private universities, eleven to the University of the Republic (eight for the School of Engineering, two for the School of Chemistry, and one for the School of Sciences), five to secondary school teachers, and one to the Ceibal Plan.
The activity constituted the second stage of the “Program for the Improvement of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) Education,” an initiative of the engineering faculties has by ANII, Indunor, and the National Academy of Engineering. The first phase of the program was the “Seminar on Pedagogical Innovation” led by Prof. Eric Mazur, a professor at Harvard University, which took place on February 13, 2012, in Montevideo.
