Lecture: “Unraveling the Educational Vision of the Promised Land”

August 1, 2012
On August 8, 2012, the conference “Deciphering the Educational Approach of the Promised Land: Contributions to the Uruguayan Experience” took place at ORT Pocitos. The speaker was José Ramón Silveira, an education advisor to the President of the Central Bank of Uruguay, who works within the BCU Educa Program. As a former Israel scholar, he shared his training experience in that country and the contributions it made to his field of work in Uruguay. The conference was organized by the Uruguayan Association of Former Israel Scholars in conjunction with the university’s Department of Jewish Studies.
Silveira is a professor in the Economics Department at the Institute of Exact and Business Sciences. He holds a certificate in “Teaching for Understanding” from Harvard University. He has a bachelor’s degree in psychology. Previously, he worked for Plan Ceibal, where he taught and developed courses for teachers on integrating ICT into the classroom, Web 2.0, and the use of mind maps. One of his works was selected as an official entry for the “Sixth Latin American Conference on Learning Objects and Technology for Education.” At Plan Ceibal, he also developed content for the communications department, notably contributing to the first season of “Sabelo” (an educational program on broadcast TV). In 2011, he participated in MASHAV’s international scholarship program, which led him to study at the OFRI Center in Jerusalem on the topic “Education for Science and Technology: ICT in Education.”
