September 22, 2012
As part of the Joint Spanish Program between Harbin Normal University (HNU) and Universidad ORT Uruguay, 42 students from the People’s Republic of China will spend two semesters in Uruguay starting in September 2012. From the Chinese province of Heilongjiang, located in the northeast of the country on the border with Russia, the first cohort of students in HNU’s Bachelor’s Degree in Spanish will complete their third year of studies at Universidad ORT Uruguay.  On September 3, the program’s first day, the opening ceremony took place in the Pocitos Campus auditorium with the participation of the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China, Qu Shengwu, who delivered a welcome speech to the students.

The program’s goal is for students to improve their Spanish communication skills and learn about Uruguayan culture. Once the courses are completed, they will return to China in June 2013 to finish their studies and earn their degrees.
