Lecture: “The Jewish Calendar: Tradition and Evolution of a Civilization. Yomim Noraim”

On September 10, 2012, ORT Pocitos hosted the lecture “The Jewish Calendar: Tradition and Evolution of a Civilization. Yamim Noraim,” presented by Rafael Winter, a professor in the Jewish Studies Department at the Escuela Integral Hebreo Uruguaya-Instituto Ariel Hebreo Uruguayo and vice president of the Montevideo Holocaust Memorial Center. The lecture focused on “Yamim Noraim” (Days of Awe), the period spanning from Rosh Hashanah (New Year) to Yom Kippur (Day of Atonement) within the framework of the Jewish calendar’s festivals and commemorations. It was organized by the Department of Jewish Studies.

Prof. Winter holds a Master’s degree in Contemporary Judaism from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, with a specialization in Jewish Education for the Diaspora from the university’s Melton Center. He is a member of the Jewish-Christian Fellowship of Uruguay and a regular columnist for the Semanario Hebreo and the Mensuario Identidad. He served as coordinator and instructor in the Jewish Studies Department at the Ariel Hebrew Institute of Uruguay.
