Panel Discussion: "Women and ICTs"

On November 26, 2013, the panel discussion “Women and ICTs” took place at ORT Centro. The event was held as part of “Future Day,” an initiative by La Diaria that has been bringing together individuals and institutions for the past three years to reflect on the future. This year, the focus was on education and work. In this panel, organized by the CIE (Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship) and the Graduate Coordination Office of the School of Engineering, the speakers analyzed myths, truths, and stereotypes about women and ICTs.

-“Women and Engineering Education: Global Trends in This Area.” Presentation on “Girls and ICT Day” by Dr. Patricia Corbo, Academic Secretary of the School of Engineering.

- “What is the culture and performance of an ICT company has high percentage of female employees?” presented by Karina Santo, CEO from GXC and K2B.

- “Women’s International Experience in the ICT Sector,” presented by Paula Gallotti, Director & Co-founderr of DVelop.

- “Experiences of international organizations working on gender issues in the ICT sector,” presented by Irene Pazos, Section Chair from IEEE Uruguay.

- “Gender Policies and the Status of Women as Entrepreneurs and Researchers in the ICT Sector,” presented by Sara Goldberg, Operations Manager at ANII (National Agency for Research and Innovation).

- “Results of the International Comparative Study on the Status of Women in Science,” presented by Alessandro Bello, Consultant for the Science Policy and Capacity-Building Program at the Regional Office for Science of UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization).

- “Girl + Science/Technology = Boy?” presented by Gustavo Riestra, Director of the Department of Scientific Culture within the Directorate of Innovation, Science, and Technology for Development at the Ministry of Education and Culture.

The panel was moderated by Graciela Balparda, M.A., a professor of Professional Communication in the School of Engineering.
