Exhibitions by photographer Leonardo Barizzoni

February 13, 2014
From February 7 to 14, 2014, the exhibition “Water/Earth/Air” by photographer Leonardo Barizzoni, a professor of photography in the School of Communication and Design, was held at the Espacio de Arte Innova in Punta del Este. The exhibition featured a collection of photographs of open and natural spaces, most of which were taken in 2013.

In addition, on February 8, the exhibition “Soccer” opened at the A cielo abierto/Parque Rodó photo gallery at the Center for Photography. It is a photo essay, created over the course of more than a decade, that includes images from different parts of the world, with the aim of showcasing the passion for soccer from a social perspective. The exhibition remains open until March 26, 2014.

"Water/Earth/Air is like photographing without pressure, approaching the subject differently, opening up the field more, creating sensations and textures, seeking out the magical side. In fact, most of those photos are taken with a small camera I carry in my pocket. I stop, I approach things differently. Traveling light, so to speak," Barizzoni told the newspaper El País in an interview on February 3.

"On the other hand, soccer is practically my life and my father. "I was born with soccer, I grew up alongside my father with soccer, I played soccer, and soccer shaped a large part of my personality," said the professor, who is the son of the late sports journalist Raúl Barizzoni. "I translate all of that into casual, everyday, and street images in various cities around the world."

During the interview, the professor discussed topics such as the popularity of soccer and the challenges of photography. "Soccer is too popular, and nowadays everyone has a device to take photos, so the hardest part is getting an original shot that stands out from the hundreds that can be taken that day or on other days. That is the great challenge of photography."
