Lecture Series: "Israel and the Middle East Conflict"

On June 10, 12, and 17, 2014, a series of lectures titled “Israel and the Conflict in the Middle East” was held at ORT Pocitos, presented by Dr. Alberto Spektorowski, Professor of Political Theory and Comparative Politics at Tel Aviv University. The series was organized by the university’s Department of Jewish Studies.
Schedule

Tuesday, June 10 – First lecture: “Israel: A Jewish State, a State for Jews, or a State for its Citizens? The Debate of the Decade.” The speaker examined the issue of recognizing Israel as a Jewish state as a key element in peace talks with the Palestinians and its political implications.

Thursday, June 12 – Second lecture: “Israel and the Middle East in the Face of Regional Changes.” The speaker will analyze changes in Israel’s security strategy and international alliances in light of the consequences of the “Arab Spring” and the civil war in Syria.

Tuesday, June 17Third Lecture: “What Future for Peace in the Middle East? Israelis, Palestinians, and U.S. Mediation.” The speaker will analyze the factors that led to the failure of the Obama administration’s peace process

Spectorowski holds a Ph.D. in Political Science from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. He was a professor at the University of Wisconsin–Madison and the University of Notre Dame in Indiana (United States).

He served as a political advisor to former Israeli Foreign Minister Shlomo Ben-Ami, with whom he participated, alongside Palestinian officials, in the peace talks of Camp David in the year 2000. He is the author of the book "The Origins of Argentina's Right-Wing Revolution" (University of Notre Dame Press, 2003) and author of numerous articles on fascist ideology and the New Right in Europe.
