July 5, 2014
Flipped.uy, a project developed by José Chiarino, Juan Felipe Coirolo, Mariano San Andrea, and Nicolás Saúl—students in the Systems Engineering program—was selected in June 2014 as one of 35 finalists from among more than 500 participating teams in the “Imagine Cup 2014,” a global competition organized by Microsoft and aimed at young students from around the world. As a result, the team will participate in the “Imagine Cup 2014” world finals, which will take place from July 29 to August 2, 2014, in Seattle (United States).

To reach this stage, in late May 2014, Flipped.uy participated in the second round of this competition in the “Innovation” category, where it competed on behalf of Uruguay among the best projects in Latin America.

Flipped.uy is a platform for creating, maintaining, and distributing online courses, which also includes a set of tools for implementing dynamic teaching methods in the classroom.

The platform aims to leverage the integration of various technologies to enable universities to manage online courses and provide teachers with tools to implement the new blended learning model.

The winner of the global competition will be able to bring their project to fruition as an entrepreneur with financial support and specialized mentors from Microsoft Corp., who will advise them on their technology project as well as their business and marketing strategy.
