Book Launch: “Omi Cuenta: Testimony of a Life”

August 30, 2014
On August 6, 2014, ORT Pocitos hosted the book launch for “Omi Cuenta: Testimony of a Life,” which compiles the memoirs of Irene Brunstein, a Holocaust survivor. The event featured presentations by writer René Fuentes and the book’s author.

The publication examines the story of a type of victim who is rarely taken into account in historiographical analyses: those who, without having been sent to ghettos or concentration camps, were forced to leave their homes and fled across Europe until they managed to leave the continent to find safety. Family breakdown, the loss of possessions, and a traumatic physical and psychological experience are some of the direct consequences suffered by these victims.

Fuentes is an instructor at the National School of Theater Instructors in Havana. He is a poet, storyteller, and playwright. He is the author of *Las trampas del paraíso*, *La ida por la vuelta*, *Una oscura pradera va pasando*, *Postales que nadie pedía*, and *El mar *. He is the author of the play *La bufanda*. He is a professor in the School of Communication and Design at Universidad ORT Uruguay.
