Lecture: “Gaza and the Endless Spiral of Violence: How Long Will This Go On?”

July 17, 2014
On July 28, 2014, the conference “Gaza and the Endless Spiral of Violence. How Long Will It Last?” was held at ORT Pocitos, led by Dr. Alberto Spectorowski, Professor of Political Theory and Comparative Politics at Tel Aviv University. The speaker analyzed the causes of the current escalation of violence between Israel and Hamas in Gaza, and its repercussions on relations between Israel and the Palestinian Authority. The event was organized by the Department of Jewish Studies.
What is behind this new escalation of violence between Israel and Hamas? How much does this affect a peace process that has already failed several times? Is this something that is bound to happen periodically?

Spectorowski holds a Ph.D. in Political Science from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. He was a professor at the University of Wisconsin–Madison and the University of Notre Dame in Indiana (United States).
He served as a political advisor to former Israeli Foreign Minister Shlomo Ben-Ami, with whom he participated, alongside Palestinian officials, in the Camp David peace talks in 2000. He is the author of the book "The Origins of Argentina's Right-Wing Revolution" (University of Notre Dame Press, 2003) and author of numerous articles on fascist ideology and the New Right in Europe.
