A professor in the biotechnology program represented Uruguay at the “Meeting with the Nobel Laureates”

Magdalena Cárdenas, a professor of molecular biology in the biotechnology programs at the School of Engineering, was selected by Uruguay to participate in the “Meeting of Nobel Laureates,” an international event that brings together outstanding young scientists from around the world. The event took place from June 29 to July 4 in Lindau, Germany.

Ms. Cárdenas was selected by the National Academy of Sciences of Uruguay as the sole Uruguayan representative at this conference, which covers topics in physiology and medicine. During the event, she had the opportunity to attend lectures, participate in discussions, and dine with 30 Nobel laureates and 600 rising stars in science from around the world.

She is currently conducting research on Bardet-Biedl syndrome, a disease that affects one person in every 100,000.
