Seminar: “Secular Jewish Identity in the 21st Century”

On October 20 and 21, 2014, the seminar “Secular Jewish Identity in the 21st Century” was held at ORT Pocitos, led by Dr. Efraim Zadoff, a Secular Humanist Rabbi and graduate of the Tmura Israel International Institute for Secular Humanist Judaism in Jerusalem. The speaker addressed the topics “Beliefs and Ways of Life of the Secular Humanist Jew” and “Who Is a Jew? Classical Sources and the Present.” The event was organized by the Department of Jewish Studies.
Zadoff holds a Ph.D. in History from Tel Aviv University. He is an Associate Researcher at the Liwerant Center for the Study of Latin America, Spain, and Portugal and Their Jewish Communities at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, and an Associate Researcher at the International Institute for Holocaust Research at Yad Vashem (Israel).

He is a member of AMILAT (Association of Researchers of Latin American Judaism), Vice President of the World Federation of Secular Humanist Judaism, and a member of the Executive Committee of the Council of Secular Humanist Rabbis of Israel – MERJAV.

He served as the research coordinator for the Israeli Commission for Missing Jews in Argentina, established by the Israeli Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Justice.
