Lecture: “Anti-Semitism Then and Now: Similarities and Differences”

On June 29, 2015, the Pocitos Campus hosted a lecture titled “Anti-Semitism Then and Now: Similarities and Differences,” presented by Dr. Alberto Spektorowski, professor of Political Theory and Comparative Politics at Tel Aviv University. The event was organized by the Department of Jewish Studies.


The speaker discussed the nature of anti-Semitism in recent years and examined the extent to which criticism of Israel is an expression of traditional anti-Semitism.

Spektorowski holds a Ph.D. in Political Science from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. He was a professor at the University of Wisconsin–Madison and the University of Notre Dame in Indiana (United States). He served as a political advisor to former Israeli Foreign Minister Shlomo Ben-Ami, with whom he participated alongside Palestinian officials in the Camp David peace talks in 2000.

He is the author of the book The Origins of Argentina's Right-Wing Revolution (University of Notre Dame Press, 2003), The Politics of Eugenics: Productionism, Population, and National Welfare (Routledge Press, 2013) and Nationalizing Islam (forthcoming, State University of New York Press). He is a visiting professor at Universidad ORT Uruguay.
