Lecture: “Processes of Forgetting and Memory in Postwar Germany”

On July 7, 2015, the lecture “Processes of Forgetting and Memory in Postwar Germany” was held at the Pocitos Campus, presented by Roberto Cyjon, former president of the Central Jewish Committee of Uruguay (2012–2014). The event was organized by the Department of Jewish Studies.



In the 20th century, Europe became a battlefield. The radicalization of the masses led Germany toward Nazism. The speaker examined how forgetting and memory were dealt with in Germany after World War II.

Cyjon holds a degree in electrical engineering from the Technion Institute of Technology in Israel. He served as president of the Central Council for Jewish Education (1995–1998) and of the Zionist Organization of Uruguay (2003–2006). He is co-editor of the following books: Zionism a Century After Herzl, Zionist Organization of Uruguay and Artemisa Publishing (2004); and JJerusalem, 19 years of the Prize, 19 speeches, Zionist Organization of Uruguay and Fin de Siglo Editores (2009).

He is a fiction writer and the author of the books Of Legends and Cliffs, Melibea Publishing (1999); Damn it, Nautilus Rey Publishing (2001); Dude, I'm getting my passport, Artemisa Publishing (2003); Marked for life, Ediciones de la Banda Oriental (2006); and The truth is always elusive, Dedos Publishing (2013).
