The book recounts an incident that took place in the Netherlands in 1940, in which the then Uruguayan ambassador to the Netherlands, Dr. Carlos Gurméndez, played a central role; risking his own safety and that of his family, he saved the lives of more than twenty people, most of whom were Jewish.
