Student and faculty research presented at the 4th National Conference on Chemical Sciences

Three academic posters by students and faculty members from the biotechnology department of the School of Engineering were presented at the 4th National Conference on Chemical Sciences, organized by the Program for the Development of Basic Sciences (Pedeciba) of the School of Chemistry at the University of the Republic. This peer-reviewed conference took place from November 4 to 6, 2015, in Montevideo. The papers were published in the event’s abstract book.

The posters presented were:

- “Use of Immobilized Nanobiocatalysts for the Chemo-Enzymatic Synthesis of Butirosin B” by Erienne Jackson, B.S., a research assistant at the Biotechnology Laboratory of the School of Engineering, Dr. Frank Schulz and Niclas Pryk, researchers at the Chemistry and Biochemistry Laboratory, Ruhr University, Germany, and Dr. Lorena Betancor, a research professor in Biotechnology at the faculty. The work was presented by Ms. Jackson.

- “Synthesis and characterization of Thermomyces lanuginosus lipase nanoimmobilates for biodiesel production” by Mr. Diego Cazaban, professor of Analytical Methods and Equipment at the Faculty of Engineering, Dr. Claudia Bernal and Dr. Lorena Wilson, researchers at the School of Biochemical Engineering at the Catholic University of Valparaíso, Chile, and Dr. Lorena Betancor. The work was presented by Mr. Cazaban.

- “Strategies for the immobilization and stabilization of HRP” by Prof. Sonali Correa, a graduate student at Pedeciba, University of the Republic; Ms. Erienne Jackson; Dr. Valeria Grazú, a researcher at the University of Zaragoza, Spain; and Dr. Lorena Betancor. The work was presented by Prof. Correa.


The articles were accepted on October 10, 2015.
