Workshops in observance of International Day of Girls in ICT

As part of International Girls in ICT Day, a global initiative promoted by the International Telecommunication Union, the School of Engineering held two workshops with students in their second and third years of secondary school, which took place on April 28, 2016, at the school.

Workshops:

App Inventor: This workshop covers the design and implementation of a mobile app using the MIT App Inventor tool. It will be led by Dr. Inés Friss de Kereki, a professor of Programming at the school.

Robotics: In this activity, students will learn the basic concepts of programming applied to robotics and follow the steps to create an app that allows them to control a robot. Led by André Fonseca, Ph.D., professor of Analog Electronics and Automatic Control at the school.

There will also be a Virtual Reality demo where students can experience the sensation of riding a roller coaster using Oculus Rift headsets. The activity will be led by Luis Calabria, Ph.D., associate coordinator of the school’s Simulation and Games Laboratory.
