The project lead for La Casa Uruguaya in the first meeting of the Ibero-American Network for Social and Sustainable Housing

Architect Andrés Eliseo Cabrera, who teaches Bioclimatic Design, Thermal Conditioning, and Workshop 7 at the School of Architecture and serves as project lead for La Casa Uruguaya, delivered a remote presentation titled "Why Not?", at the first meeting of the Ibero-American Network for Social and Sustainable Habitat, held on June 10 and 11, 2016, in Bogotá, Colombia.

Architect Cabrera reflected on the lessons learned during the 2015 Solar Decathlon competition and the contributions made by La Casa Uruguaya the discussion on sustainable social housing.

During the presentation, the professor discussed ways to achieve maximum comfort without compromising the bioclimatic principles that ensure minimal reliance on artificial systems.

La Casa Uruguaya, designed by students and faculty from all of the university’s schools, was the winner of the 2015 Solar Decathlon. It is a prototype for affordable, sustainable housing powered by renewable solar energy.
