The GPSGAY app, created by Magdalena Rodríguez, a graduate of the Bachelor’s program in Graphic Design, and Rosario Monteverde, a graduate of the Systems Engineering program, won first place on July 14, 2016, in the Startup Nation competition for Women Entrepreneurs organized by the Israeli Embassy and Endeavor. The winners will participate in the DLD Tel Aviv Innovation Festival 2016 in Israel this September.

DLD is a global gathering of entrepreneurs and business leaders from around the world where they can connect with investors, startups, incubators, and a vast network of mentors.

The competition took place in several stages. In the final phase, five finalists had to deliver a pitch at the Endeavor Mega Experience before a jury of leading figures from Uruguay’s business, technology, and innovation sectors.

The jury consisted of the operations manager of the National Agency for Research and Innovation (ANII), Sara Goldberg, the vice president of Endeavor, María Noel Ache, the founder of Collokia, Pablo Brenner, and the Israeli ambassador to Uruguay, Nina Bem-Ami.

GPSGAY is a Uruguayan social network aimed at the gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender community, featuring chats, events, news, and movies of interest to this audience. The development of this app was supported by the Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (CIE).
