Lecture: “Uruguayan Secularism: A Pillar of the Republic”

On Tuesday, August 30, 2016, at 7:30 p.m., the lecture “Uruguayan Secularism: A Pillar of the Republic” will be held at the Pocitos Campus (2633 España Blvd.) and presented by Dr. Ope Pasquet, a representative of the Colorado Party. The speaker will analyze the concept of secularism and its contribution to the founding of the Republic.

Ope Pasquet holds a Ph.D. in Law and Social Sciences. He is part of a generation of young politicians who began their careers as opponents of the dictatorship during the 1980 constitutional plebiscite, alongside Dr. Enrique Tarigo. Since 2004, he has been a member of the National Executive Committee of the Colorado Party. He served as Secretary General of the Colorado Party (April 4, 2011, to March 8, 2012).

This event, organized by the Judeo-Christian Confederation of Uruguay with the support of the university’s Department of Jewish Studies, is part of the lecture series “Building a Secular Uruguay: Different Perspectives, Contributions, and Commitments.”
