Lecture: “The Holocaust as a Lens for Understanding the Society in Which We Live”

On September 5, 2016, the lecture “The Holocaust as a Laboratory for Understanding the Society in Which We Live” was held at the Pocitos Campus, presented by Marcos Israel, co-founder of the National Coordinating Committee for the Fight Against Racism in Uruguay (2001). The speaker analyzed the consequences of modernity in our society
Israel holds a master’s degree in social policy from the University of the Republic. He is a certified public accountant and holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration. He served as a member of the National Honorary Commission for the Fight Against Racism and Discrimination (2007–2012).

He represented the Latin American Jewish Congress at the Citizens’ Forum of the 2001 World Conference Against Racism in Durban, while also serving as a member of Uruguay’s official delegation to the Conference of States.

He has been a leader of Uruguay's Jewish community since 1986 and served as president of the Central Israeli Committee (2009–2011). He is the author of the books Anti-Semitism and the Arab-Israeli conflict and Postwar. Israel - Hamas.
