This year’s feature article is dedicated to lawyer Raphael Lemkin (1900–1959), author of the book *Axis Domination in Occupied Europe*, in which he first used the term “genocide.” The text, titled “Raphael Lemkin: The Voice of Conscience,” was written by Dr. Jonás Bergstein.
“With that expression, Lemkin referred to a coordinated plan of various actions aimed at destroying the essential foundations of the life of national groups with the purpose of annihilating those very groups,” Dr. Bergstein states in the text.
Between 1950 and 1959, Lemkin was nominated seven times for the Nobel Peace Prize.
