5th Uruguay Tax Conference: Tax Planning and Compliance in a Changing International Landscape

On February 17, 2017, the event "V Uruguay Tax Conference: Tax Planning and Compliance in a Changing International Landscape" took place at the Barradas Parque Hotel in Punta del Este. The purpose of this annual conference is to analyze current developments and ideas regarding changes in international and regional tax matters. The event was organized by the Department of Accounting and Taxation of the School of Business and Social Sciences.

This year, the conference focused on the changes implemented by countries in the region regarding the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD)’s Base Erosion and Profit Shifting (BEPS) Action Plan, as well as on the international exchange of information regarding tax planning strategies. Leading professionals and academics will explore the implications of these changes for individuals and companies domiciled in Uruguay, Argentina, Brazil, and Chile, within a dynamic international context.

Speakers:

- Félix Abadi, CPA, Professor of Taxation at the School of Management and Social Sciences and member of the Board of Directors of the Uruguayan Institute of Tax Studies. He is a co-founder of the professional firms Rueda Abadi Pereira and SMS Uruguay, and a member of the firm SMS Latin America, which is part of the Forum of Firms of the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC).

- Dr. Carlos Gutiérrez Puente, senior research associate at the IBFD (International Bureau of Fiscal Documentation, Netherlands). He is a lecturer at IBFD International Tax Training, in the LL.M. program at the University of Amsterdam, and in the tax graduate programs at the Faculty of Administration and Social Sciences.

- Adriana Piano, CPA, member of the Argentine Association of Tax Studies (AAEF) and the International Fiscal Association (IFA). She is a professor of Taxation at the University of Buenos Aires (Argentina).

- Eliana Sartori, CPA, director of the Legal and Tax Department at PwC Uruguay.

- Federico Otegui, CPA, manager of international tax planning at Innovation Tax & Trust. He is a member of the Uruguayan Institute of Tax Studies (IUET) and the International Fiscal Association (IFA). He is a professor in the Master’s Program in Taxation and Accounting Standards – IFRS.

- Cr. Nicolás May, tax advisor on international and domestic matters at Consultora y Administradora Suizo-Uruguaya. He is a professor in the Master’s Program in Taxation and Accounting Standards – IFRS.

- Cra. Luciana Ávalo, manager of the Legal and Tax Department at PwC Uruguay, specialist in transfer pricing.
