Introduction to the IEEE Education Society Uruguay Chapter

On February 16, 2017, the Catholic University of Uruguay hosted the launch of the IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) Education Society Uruguay Chapter, the first in-person meeting of its members. Representatives from Uruguay’s higher education sector in the fields of engineering, technology, and business participated. This IEEE Chapter was established in December 2016 with the support of the School of Engineering at Universidad ORT Uruguay, among other institutions and stakeholders in the sector.

Its objectives are:
- To promote opportunities for exchange between universities and industry, reflecting on educational challenges, particularly in the field of engineering.
- To encourage the creation of communities of practice that support the work of engineering professionals in the field of education.
- To establish contact and collaborate with the various IEEE student branches.

Representing the university were Dr. Patricia Corbo, academic secretary of the School of Engineering, Alejandro Adorjan, M.Eng., associate academic coordinator of Systems Engineering, Dr. Martín Solari, associate professor of Software Engineering, Andrés De Sosa, M.Eng., academic coordinator of Computer Science at the School of Technology, and Martín Copes, M.Eng., research teaching assistant.
