Conference: "Building Renovation with Energy Efficiency Criteria"

April 28, 2017
On April 27, 2017, the Faculty of Architecture hosted a lecture titled "Building Renovation with Energy Efficiency Criteria," presented by Sofía Sáez, an architect specializing in the hygrothermal behavior of buildings at the company Bromyros. The speaker gave a brief introduction to net and useful energy consumption at the residential level in Uruguay, highlighted the importance of energy conservation, and focused primarily on the principles and variables of thermal comfort.

The speaker analyzed buildings as thermal-energy systems, the characteristics of Uruguay’s climate, and the importance of proper design of a building’s thermal envelope. Building on this theoretical framework, she discussed bioclimatic strategies for passive retrofitting, such as thermal insulation, improvements to windows and doors, solar shading and solar control, colors and materials of the building envelope, and natural ventilation.

Architect Sáez earned a European Energy Manager certificate from the Uruguayan-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry. She is a graduate of Architecture. He specializes in bioclimatic architecture and energy efficiency in the construction industry.
