Contest on the Holocaust and the 75th Anniversary of the Wannsee Conference

On June 4, 2017, the “Jidón 2017: Nelly and Nahum Bergstein” event took place at the Pocitos Campus. It is a quiz competition on the topic “The Holocaust: 75 Years Since the Wannsee Conference,” aimed at young people in formal and non-formal education between the ages of 15 and 19. The winner was Catalina Miranda, a student at New Zealand School. Second place was a tie between Diego Magallanes from the Escuela Integral Hebreo Uruguaya and Mary Carmen Flores Lopez from Jesús María School.

The panel consisted of Roberto Cyjon, former president of the Central Jewish Committee of Uruguay; Ana Ribeiro, a historian and professor at the Faculty of Humanities at the Catholic University of Uruguay; and Ramiro Rodríguez Villamil, co-founder of the Weekly Search and former director of Radio Sarandí. The event was hosted by Dr. Gabriel Goldman.

The event was attended by Israeli Ambassador Nina Ben Ami and German Ambassador Ingo von Voß, who presented the award to the winner. It was organized by the Bergstein family and the university’s Department of Jewish Studies.
