Conference: “The Challenge Facing Today’s Educational Organizations: Promoting and Advancing Support for Vulnerable Groups”

July 26, 2017
On July 25, 2017, the lecture “The Challenge Facing Today’s Educational Organizations: Promoting and Advancing Support for Vulnerable Groups” was held at the Downtown Campus. It was presented by Dr. Joaquín Gairín, a professor in the Department of Applied Pedagogy at the Autonomous University of Barcelona.

The speaker reflected on strategies aimed at restoring the purpose and value of these institutions as tools for social transformation through education.

“Educational organizations are social constructs and, as such, should serve people and society. However, various circumstances cause them to become insular and to be hijacked by regulatory processes or the interests of specific groups. Reconstructing the nature and purpose of educational organizations requires rethinking their connection to society and, among other issues, their commitment to educational equity and social justice,” stated the speaker.

Prof. Gairín holds a Ph.D. in Philosophy and Letters from the Autonomous University of Barcelona. He is a professor of General Basic Education and an international educational consultant. He is a visiting professor in graduate programs at the Institute of Education.
