Launch of the "Space for Remembrance" Contest in Bait Jadash

August 29, 2017
The New Israeli Congregation (NCI) and Universidad ORT Uruguay the “Project for a Space of Remembrance at Bait Jadash” competition. The presentation, aimed at students, architects, interior designers, and design professionals in general, took place on August 24, 2017, at the School of Architecture.

A particularly distinctive aspect of Jewish tradition is the veneration of memory. From the celebration of holidays that commemorate collective events that took place more than 3,000 years ago to the veneration of departed loved ones through prayer several times a year, the act of remembrance is an intrinsic part of Jewish life.

Creating a space for remembrance in a community center involves practicing the cult of memory. It means giving NCI members the opportunity to perpetuate the lives of their loved ones, not only within the confined space of family intimacy but also within the broader scope of the community.

The speakers at the launch were:

- Architect Gastón Boero, dean of the faculty and full professor of Project 1.

- Rabbi Daniel Dolinsky, rabbi of the NCI.

- David Telias, community director of the NCI and professor of Contemporary International History at the Faculty of Administration and Social Sciences.
