On Monday, May 18, the lecture "Criteria for Interventions on Existing Buildings: Case Studies" was held in the Auditorium of the School of Architecture. The lecture was presented by Architect Ramiro Chaer, Full Professor of Structures at the School.

The speaker is a structural architect, advisor, and consultant on structural engineering and building pathologies for professionals, private companies, and public agencies, including Banco República, the municipal governments of Montevideo, Tacuarembó, Paysandú, and Flores, and the Ministry of Public Health. He was a member and board member of the Latin American Association for Quality Control, Pathology, and Building Rehabilitation (Alconpat) during the 2007–2008 term.

The conference presented various case studies of professional practice involving existing buildings, in which the challenge lies in integrating the existing structure with new additions, often requiring intervention in the existing structure to resolve structural issues in order to carry out the planned work. Architect Chaer explained the criteria adopted in the cases presented, with the aim of fostering a critical analysis of the situations, given the need to make decisions that affect the architect’s professional responsibility.
