On August 6, the launch of the Bachelor’s Degree in Biotechnology—Uruguay’s first undergraduate degree program in biotechnology—and the Biotechnology Technician program, a post-secondary degree has by the National Agency for Research and Innovation (ANII) through its call for technical-post-secondary programs, took place in the Auditorium of the School of Engineering.
The event was attended by the Minister of Economy and Finance, Álvaro García; the President and Director of the Technological Laboratory of Uruguay (LATU), Miguel Brechner and Carlos Paolino, respectively; and the President of ANII, Dr. Rodolfo Silveira.
On this occasion, an addendum to the agreement with LATU for the Biotechnology area was signed, along with a letter of intent with ANII to support the Biotechnology Technician program.
The programs, which began on March 15, 2010, combine a solid scientific foundation with the development of laboratory skills, process design, and business training. They feature an outstanding faculty with extensive academic and professional experience.
