Carolina Fontana, a student in the Bachelor of Industrial Design program, and Paula Artasanchez, a student in the Bachelor of Graphic Design program, developed the Bicipunto project for the NGO Urubike—Center for Research and Promotion of Cycling in Uruguay. On August 28, the inauguration of the First Urubike Bicipunto took place at the El Faro station on Rambla and Bulevar Artigas.
Fontana was in charge of developing the project and its corresponding prototype, while Artasanchez created the visual identity, icons, and signage. Bicipunto was developed as part of the degree program’s Integrative Project—Recreación09, an academic initiative fostering connections with Uruguayan companies and productive ventures, which brings together project proposals from students in their final semester of the Bachelor’s programs in Graphic, Industrial, and Fashion Design.
A Bicipunto Urubike is a column-like metal structure with an acrylic roof that serves as a safe reference point for the basic repair and maintenance of a bicycle that has come out of alignment. The first Bicipunto Urubike prototype was designed as part of an agreement between Urubike and the Design degree programs at ORT University. Its production was supported by the British Embassy.
