"Theories of Teaching" Seminar

August 2, 2010
On August 13 and 27, the Institute of Education hosted the seminar "Theories of Teaching," led by Mag. Mariana Maggio, Assistant Professor of Educational Technology in the Faculty of Philosophy and Letters at the University of Buenos Aires (UBA). The seminar was aimed at faculty members at ORT University, as part of the activities of the Center for Continuing Education in Higher Education (CAES).

Mariana Maggio holds a Ph.D. (candidate) in Education, a Master’s degree in Didactics, and a Bachelor’s degree in Educational Sciences from the University of Buenos Aires. She is a researcher at the Institute for Research in Educational Sciences, UBA.

Theories of teaching are the focus of this seminar. We distinguish between teaching and learning, even as we study their relationships and intersections. Current studies on the teaching profession, the characteristics of classroom communication, and the political, social, and cognitive analysis generated by issues of content selection are topics of didactic concern today. The seminar highlights the analysis of teaching within the political and institutional contexts where practices unfold, as well as the impact of reforms and innovations on these approaches.
