On Thursday, December 2, a screening of the documentary "Mundialito" took place in the Auditorium of the School of Communication and Design. The film was directed by Sebastián Bednarik, a graduate of the Audiovisual Production Technician program, and produced by Andrés Varela, Executive Producer at Coral Films. Following the screening, both spoke about how the project was conceived and produced, and provided insight into the 1980 Mundialito and its historical context.
Bednarik is a director and producer at Coral Films. He is active in theater as an actor, playwright, and director. In 1999, he was awarded the Florencio Revelación Prize for his direction of "¿Qué pasó con B.N.?," co-written with Verónica Perrota (National Literature Prize from the Ministry of Education and Culture). He co-wrote the screenplay for "La Espera" (FONA Award 2000) with Coral Godoy. In 2001, he directed the actors in this play, which premiered at the San Sebastián Film Festival and won awards at the festivals in Trieste, Montreal, and Miami. In 2007, he completed the documentary "La Matinée" and that same year began filming his second feature-length documentary: "Cachila."
Andrés Varela holds a Bachelor’s degree in Performing Arts from the University of Nanterre (Paris) and is a graduate of the Municipal School of Dramatic Arts (Montevideo). He is the Executive Producer at Coral Films. He participates in theater projects as a producer, actor, and director for the Comedia Nacional. In 1999, he received the National Literature Award from the Ministry of Education and Culture for his play “El depósito.”
