"Social Media Analysis" Workshop

May 3, 2011
The Institute of Education organized the workshop "Social Network Analysis," which took place on May 16 and 17 and was led by Dr. José Ignacio Porras, who holds a Ph.D. in Political Science from the Complutense University of Madrid and a Master’s degree in E-Government from the Metropolitan Technological University of Chile.

The workshop aims to explore the methodology known as Social Network Analysis, which enables the measurement and analysis of the connections formed between individuals and/or institutions that share a particular social space. The success of individuals and organizations depends largely on their strategic use of social capital. That is why it is important today to identify these structures in order to analyze the dynamics they generate, enabling us to understand them within a specific context, and from there to promote their management within the framework of processes of change and improvement.

Dr. Porras is a professor in graduate programs at universities in Chile, Spain, and Uruguay, and a consultant to international organizations and government agencies on organizational change, strengthening social capital, and e-citizen participation.
