Visit by students from Babson College, United States

A group of 20 students from Babson College (Wellesley, Massachusetts) visited the School of Business and Social Sciences on March 18 and 19, 2013, accompanied by Prof. Joe Ricciardi, Associate Professor in the Department of Economics at Babson College, and Michelle McCormack, Study Abroad Advisor. The visit took place as part of the “Uruguay-Argentina Offshore Course” program. During their stay, they participated in various academic and cultural activities.

The schedule of academic activities with the visiting delegation was as follows:

Monday, March 18

- Lecture : “Mercosur: What It Is and What It Isn’t. Why These Questions Matter. A Perspective on Mercosur Looking Ahead to the Coming Years, presented by Isidoro Hodara, Vice President of Zonamerica and Professor of International Trade at the school.

- Visit to Plan Ceibal, hosted by Gonzalo Pérez Piaggio, CEO of Plan Ceibal.

- Visit to the Zonamerica facilities, specifically the TCS (Tata Consultancy Services) facilities .

Tuesday, March 19

- Lecture “The real estate industry in the Southern Cone of South America; opportunities for entrepreneurs, by Ricardo Frechou, CEO of infocasas.com.uy.

- Lecture “The paper pulp industry in Uruguay. Origins, development, perspectives, and key sustainability aspects” by Carolina Moreira, VP for Sustainability and Corporate Affairs at Montes del Plata (a joint venture between Finland’s Stora Enso and Chile’s Celulosa Arauco).

- Lecture “The future of iron ore mining in Uruguay” by Ernesto Lima, Project Director in various locations across Latin America and international consultant on mining-related issues.

- Discussion of the “Parmalat” case by Enrique Kramer, Academic Coordinator of Management.
