An old Zen proverb about snow goes: “A snowflake never falls in the wrong place.” In other words, it suggests that nothing happens by chance. This proverb, which blends a natural phenomenon as iconic as snow with the human experience, leads us to question the significance of the events of our past and the decisions we make about them.

Inés travels to Kiruna, a town above the Swedish Arctic Circle and more than 13,000 kilometers from Uruguay. She revisits her past in exile, captured in hundreds of handwritten letters exchanged between her and her father, who was imprisoned for 14 years. Letters in which they shared dreams and hardships, fighting against separation, where writing and family became a bridge to be together, wherever they were. Inés tried to convey in writing and with great affection her desire to be the daughter her father, trapped in isolation, desperately needed. Her father, in these letters, tried to convey to her what he would have said had he been present: to teach her to love life. Amidst it all, the enormous burden for a little girl to know that she was the fragile thread her father clung to so as not to lose hope. Someday they would be reunited, and a whole world revolved around that promise. Today, many years later, Inés decides to write one last letter to her father, trying to understand and reclaim the time that has passed.
