This competition, which has become a testing ground for real-world architectural solutions, was organized by the Construction Fair in collaboration with the Municipality of CH, the Interdisciplinary Center on Aging, and the Construction League, with academic support from the School of Architecture at Universidad ORT Uruguay and the University of the Republic.
The second edition of Arqatón brought together 20 teams, each composed of architects, designers, and students from various disciplines related to the built environment. Over the course of 20 intense hours of work, these teams presented creative proposals to revitalize Lluis Companys Square, a prominent public space in the Buceo neighborhood.
The challenge of Arqatón 2023 was clear: to identify a specific space in which to develop a creative project—one that could be adapted to the competition’s format—complete with an implementation plan and a budget that would ensure its long-term viability. Lluis Companys Square, with its strategic location and potential to become a hub for gathering and recreation, was the site chosen for this ambitious undertaking.
