Teaching Excellence Awards Ceremonies

In December 2013, the schools held their annual Teaching Excellence Awards ceremonies. These awards are intended to recognize the quality of instruction provided by faculty members who regularly teach courses, as well as the learning achievements of their students. At each ceremony, the respective dean reviews the year’s achievements and presents the awards to the winning faculty members, who have demonstrated outstanding performance during the year and have an exceptional academic record within the faculty. The university has been presenting these awards since 1995.

List of 2013 Award Winners:

School of Engineering (December 11)

  • Marcelo Rubino, Ph.D., professor in the Department of Programming at the school—recipient of the School of Engineering’s Award for Teaching Excellence.
  • Adriana Cabella, Assistant Professor of Programming – Recipient of the School of Technology’s Award for Teaching Excellence.
  • Helena Garbarino, Ph.D., M.S., Academic Coordinator of the Bachelor’s Degree in Systems Engineering. The School of Engineering honors her academic career, marking her 25 years on the faculty.
  • Nancy Ibarra, M.A., Instructor of Functional Solutions Implementation – Recognized for her outstanding performance in the Professional Development Program in Functional Analysis.
  • Prof. Enrique Verdes, instructor of Linux Operating Systems and Linux Server Administration—Recognized for his outstanding academic achievements in teaching Linux.
  • Fernando Fontán, Engineer – Honored for his 19 years of teaching at the School of Engineering, on the occasion of his retirement.

 

School of Architecture (December 12)

  • Ricardo Romero, Architect, Full Professor of Construction Methods 3 and Construction Workshop at the School – 2013 Award for Teaching Excellence
  • Flavio Morán, Associate Professor of Equipment Design 1 and 2 – Awarded for his work in University Extension in 2013.

 

School of Management and Social Sciences (December 13)

  • Miguel Rilo, Ph.D., professor of statistics at the school – Award for Teaching Excellence, undergraduate programs
  • Héctor Bajac, Ph.D., Professor of Marketing – Award for Excellence in Teaching, Graduate and Executive Programs.
  • Alejandro Martinis, B.A., Computer Science Instructor – Award for Teaching Excellence, Short-Term Programs.
  • Marcel Mordezki, M.S.E., Academic Coordinator of the Master's Program in Technology Business Management – Award for Lifetime Achievement and Contribution to the School.
  • Dr. Néstor Gandelman, Academic Coordinator of Economics – Award for Research and Academic Production.
  • Finance - Outstanding Faculty Award.

As part of this event, the school celebrated its 25th anniversary. The Dean, Dr. Gaston J. Labadie, recalled the origins of the School of Management in 1988 and highlighted some of the milestones that have shaped the institution’s history, such as the launch of Uruguay’s first Master of Business Administration (MBA) program, the first Certified Public Accountant program offered by a private college, its first appearance in the América Economía magazine rankings, its current enrollment of over 2,900 students, more than 6,000 graduates, and the accreditation of the MBA by the Association of MBAs (AMBA), among others.

 

School of Communication and Design (December 19)

  • Montserrat Ramos, Professor of Advertising at the school – Honorable Mention for "24 Hours of Creativity."
  • DI Mariana Muzi, Academic Coordinator of Fashion Design, and Hugo Millán, a faculty member in the Department of Fashion Design, for "Puesta en Escena."
  • María Forni, B.A., instructor of Organizational Communication and Quantitative Methodology in the Bachelor of Communication program – Award for Teaching Excellence.
  • Magdalena Vilaró, professor of Design and Visual Communication 1 at the school – Award for Teaching Excellence.
