Conference: “The 21st Century: The Importance of Science and Technology Education for a Nation’s Development”

On December 12, 2012, the Faculty of Engineering hosted a lecture titled “The 21st Century: The Importance of Science and Technology Education for a Nation’s Development,” delivered by Dr. Luis G. Kun, Senior Research Professor of National Security at the Information Resources Management College of the National Defense University (United States). The speaker focused on the transfer of knowledge across multiple fields and the importance of the convergence of technologies and sciences to rapidly bring about major changes, which in turn will create job opportunities in multidisciplinary teams. The event was organized by the School of Engineering and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).


Dr. Luis G. Kun holds a Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering from the University of California. He is Chair of the IEEE (United States) Critical Infrastructure Protection Committee and of the Bioterrorism and Homeland Security Working Group of the IEEE Medical Technology Standards Committee. He is Chair of the Bioterrorism Research and Development SWAT Group at the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE). He was elected (March 2006) to the Executive Committee and Board of Directors of AIMBE. He is an elected member (April 2006) of the Executive Committee and the Board of Directors of the American Association of Engineering Societies (AAES). Atthe American Medical Informatics Association, he chairs the working group called “Knowledge in Motion” ( a combination of telehealth, the internet, and mobile computing) and is a member of the Public Interest Policy Committee.
